| Around 11:00, as a crew prepared to deal with an electrical power line which had fallen into a tree on Sandy Hill road in the township, Westmoreland 911 dispatched station 20 (Murrysville) with a roof fire at the First United Methodist Church. Fire dispatch notified the crew from engine 87 that the truck was due on the alarm in Murrysville.
So the crew quickly changed trucks and truck 87 went in route to Murrysville. Also on the alarm was White Valley, Sardis, Export, Level Green and Delmont volunteer fire departments as well as the Westmoreland County Haz-Mat team which served as the Rapid Intervention Team.
Murrysville crews arrived quickly to find a power line that snapped, landing on the roof causing the fire to start. Crews from truck 20 placed hand lines into service to minimize and contain the spread of the fire. Truck 87 arrived and was positioned on the "A" side of the structure. The Truck crew set up the tower and took a thermal imaging camera to the attic vent to check for heat.
Crews remained on scene until Allegheny Power removed the wire from the rooftop. Truck 87 was placed back in service at 13:30. |
