By Captain Mark Ferguson
August 29, 2008
This morning at 05:34 Harrison City Volunteers were dispatched to Chambers Avenue, city of Jeannette for an abandon row house fire. Upon arrival of city firefighters, heavy fire was ventilating from all 10 row houses. Truck 87 went en route with 6 firefighters and was on scene within minutes. Due to the heavy fire volume, a defensive attack was initiated protecting exposures across the street from the fire. Truck 87 set up aerial operations along with tower 112 and after a brief delay due to water pressure issues in the area, Truck 87 flowed water from both bucket nozzles (straight bore and combination) for nearly 4 hours. Truck 87 flowed over 167,000 gallons of water over this time period!
Also assisting on the alarm was salvage 24 (Southwest Greensburg), engine 21 (Grapeville) and engine 106 (Grandview). The fire is under investigation by PSP. Truck 87 was placed back into service at 10:00. City of Jeannette firefighters remained on scene throughout the day.
