September 28, 2009
Shortly before midnight a house fire was reported on Duncan street in the McCullough section of Penn Township. Departments responding on the first alarm included Claridge, Harrison City, Paintertown, Level Green, Grandview, North Irwin, Penn, and Export VFD's.
Chief 63 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire on the first and second floors. He requested his engine to the front of the structure along with Truck 87 and the second incoming engine to pick up the plug at the corner of Duncan and Koter. Engine 63-2 arrived on scene followed by truck 87. Engine 87 picked up the plug and established a water supply into truck 87. Various hand lines were placed into service in addition to the tower so that a quick knock down could be established. Due to the heavy fire volume, the second floor was burned away prior to the arrival of initial fire crews.
The fire was under control within 45 minutes. Fire units remained on scene until approximately 04:00 due to the extensive overhaul which needed completed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
